Understanding Sepsis
     E learning Course
Management of Catastrophic       Bleeding E learning Course

Sepsis, also known as septicaemia or blood poisoning is a life-threatening condition where an infection spreads into the blood stream. In the UK today, sepsis kills 52,000 people every year, making it one of the UK's most prominent killers. The biggest challenge in sepsis is early recognition - unfortunately the signs and symptoms are easily mistaken for less serious conditions.

This course provides an easy to understand description of what sepsis is and how it affects the body - because having a general understanding of sepsis improves the chances of recognising this life-threatening condition before it's too late!

You don't need to be a medical professional to take this interactive e-learning course. It is designed for caregivers, first aiders, first aid trainers, parents, teachers, healthcare assistants or relatives and gives essential information on sepsis, including:

    • Sepsis: The life-threatening reaction

  •  Signs and symptoms of sepsis in children and adults

    • Early signs of sepsis

    • Severe signs of sepsis

The European Resuscitation Council (ERC) First Aid Guidelines 2015 state that when direct pressure cannot control severe bleeding, haemostatic dressings and tourniquets are to be used. This is due to the wealth of evidence available that shows how effective tourniquets and haemostatic dressings are when they are used in these situations.

In light of these guidelines, we have designed an e-learning course that allows First Aid Trainers and Internal Quality Assurers (IQAs) to gain all of the essential information needed to safely and confidently teach and assess the use of tourniquets and haemostatic dressings on training courses.

This 3-hour course can be taken anywhere, at any time, and is designed in bite-sized chunks, so you can fit the learning around your busy lifestyle. The course provides candidates with a thorough understanding of the following topics:
